Question: One of the members of my Deanery study group writes questions of the week for her church bulletin. We were talking about reading ahead in the sunday readings and she make a comment that in the liturgical calendar this year there is no week 6 or ordinary time. Why is this, is it because one of the moveable feasts has taken the place of it? I am interested in your answer.
Answer:
Thanks for your question. The sixth week of ordinary time is actually the seventh week of Easter; they overlap. So that week itself still exists, but depending on your diocese, that Sunday, which was May 8th this year, could have been the celebration of the Ascension of the Lord. The Ascension itself would have been the preceding Thursday, but many dioceses move that celebration to the following Sunday. So in this year, that could have been the case in your parish. I hope that answers your question. God bless!
