Question: Greetings in Christ, I have a question regarding servile work on the Sabbath. I am a recent convert to Catholicism. For the past several years, I have been doing service in a Hindu temple on Sundays. I cook and clean the temple from noon until 11pm every Sunday. The worshippers at this temple say that we are doing all work for the Lord, with our minds on Him at all times. I am wondering if this is considered servile work. I am deeply concerned that perhaps I may be committing a mortal sin by doing so. Any advice regarding this matter would be most appreciated. In His service, Kirsten
Answer:
Kirsten,
I do not think you are doing anything wrong, and you are certainly not committing
a mortal sin. I commend you for the work you are doing. rest and prayer are
also important. dedicate some time to prayer and time with loved ones.
blessings,
Father Robert
