First, as Catholic Campus Ministers, we’re really glad that you are interested in learning more about our faith!
Second, the answers you find here are only the beginning. We don’t claim to say everything that needs to be said on any topic. We’ve just tried to make accessible some of the basic outlines of Church teaching, Biblical references and lines of thought that pertain to these questions. Keep reading, exploring, researching; if we can help by offering suggestions about what you might read, please contact us by email.
Third, nobody ever knows enough. We don’t claim to have all the answers. The richness of our Catholic tradition shows us that we always have more to learn. As college and university students, you don’t rely on your science projects from middle school, or your keyboard proficiency from elementary school, or your reading comprehension ability from high school. Thankfully, you hone and develop these talents along with athletic gifts, analytical skills, and performance techniques; you’re learning and developing in every part of your life.
That’s pretty much the way it is with our faith: we can’t rely only on the answers we got in CCD or TYM or Catholic school. Life’s questions get harder, but, thankfully, the majesty of Catholic Christianity is such that we can find answers to those ever-harder questions in the community of faith. Just as you’re working hard in college to develop your talents and abilities, so we have to be willing to spend the time and make the effort to discover the great things that await us in the Church’s teaching.
So, don’t give up! Keep at it! If something we say doesn’t make sense at first, keep digging, asking, praying, studying – and we’re absolutely confident that God will provide an answer to your questions.
