Question:  While I am pro-life and believe abortion is wrong part of me thinks that having abortion legal in the Unites States is a good thing. Every time I think about making abortion illegal, I think of women hurting themselves to perform abortions themselves when they could have doctors perform the procedure. Abortion is something that has been happening all throughout history. Which is worse? I don't like it but it almost seems like a neccesary evil. Should we not educate people on caring, loving and appreciating new life rather then try to control their pregnancies? Thank you

Thanks a lot for your question. Abortion is a highly discussed issue in the Church. The Church teaches that abortion is wrong, because life starts at conception, and abortion would be taking away that life. If abortion were made illegal, then in a perfect world you would like to think that women would not perform abortions themselves. There are so many unwanted pregnancies though, and it's something that probably won't be easily solved just by makin abortion illegal. And you are right, we should educate people on the wonders of new life, and hope that all will come to appreciate life. God bless.
