Topic:  Does attending a nuptial Mass fulfill my Sunday obligation?

Question:  I'm invited to a Saturday afternoon wedding Mass in which both bride & groom are Catholic. 90% of my family assures me this takes care of my Sunday obligation since I usually attend Saturday Evening Masses. I seem to remember some one a long time ago telling me different. Thank you for your time and coooperation in this matter.Steve White

Answer: 

You have a great memory! You are absolutely right, attending a nuptial Mass on Saturday does not fulfill your Sunday obligation UNLESS - the wedding is at 3pm or later and the readings of the weekend are used. In other words, the first reading, second reading and Gospel. Generally, the bride and groom select other readings.
