Question: Can you give me your comment on 1 Corinthians 9:22. Does this refer to being inclusive in ministry? Thank you. Leo
Answer:
The larger context
of Paul's statement in I Corinthians 9:22 is a discussion of how, though he
COULD demand to exercise his rights as an Apostle, he has decided not to do
so as a way of respecting the consciences of the people among whom he is ministering.
Paul is of the opinion that those people are not terribly mature in their faith
experience, and so Paul is trying to respect that relative immaturity in the
hope that his gentleness will help them to grow toward greater maturity and
understanding in faith.
So, I would say that I Corinthians 9:22 is more about HUMILITY in ministry than
inclusivity per se.
Hope this helps!
